the meetup. february.

Dear January,

Where did you go? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you are gone. Quite frankly, your coldness hurts my bones. However, your quick departure has left me scrambling to get my goals done so I don't look like a slacker. So I blame you January. It's all your fault. I accept no responsibility. Maybe February will be nicer to me.

January goals:

1. Finish wedding paper suite and send to printer.-- almost done.
2. Design the rest of wedding marketing packet, print and assemble.--just plain failed on that one.
3. Get some sort of shop going.-- Still on the fence on this one. I know I talked about CafePress but I'm just not sure I want to take this on.
4. Make a Facebook fan page.-- done! Are you a fan?
5. Update website.-- hmmm nope. But I have been thinking about how I want to structure it.
6. Small Business Marketing.-- Brochure is half designed in my head. Does that count?
7. Work on a project that I am super excited about but I'm keeping my mouth shut at the moment until things progress!-- THE BALL IS ROLLLLLLING!!! But it's still a secret.

Dear February,

I know your stay is always short but I'm counting on you to be sweet to me. After all you do host Valentine's Day.

February goals:

1. Finish wedding paper suite and send to printer.
2. Brochures-- wedding and small business.
3. Website update.
4. Plan out sample books.

There you have it folks. I'm officially a slacker and going to work on the same things I have been working on for the last couple of months. In my defense, I did have a super busy month in other areas.

If your interested in learning more about The Meetup visit Athena Dreams for more details.

team in training. san diego rock and roll.

This past Saturday I started training with Team in Training to run the San Diego Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon on June 6th. The team supports The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find a stop to leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I am excited and nervous all at once. I'm not a runner. Never have been. But I'm looking to challenge myself and what better way to do it than for a great cause. And another plus is getting to travel to a great city like San Diego.

Check out my website and make a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and help support my participation.

Please forward this post along to anybody who would like to help.

I have also added a widget so you can keep track of my progress right from my blog.

Thanks ya'll and wish me luck in my training.

design challenge. social media. calling card.

So you've signed up for all these social networking sites. Now, how do you get friends? Duh, calling cards with all your info on them! Here's my version of it. Of course, it's a total spoof. That's only because I'm finding humor in the social media world. :)

What do you think? Do you see these being passed around at high schools?

I have come to the decision that this will be my last design challenge. I know, boo. But I am taking on a major design challenge and trying to grow my business and take over the world. Haha. Maybe not take over the world...maybe Jacksonville? Ok. Ok. I'll settle for the Universe. You talked me into it.

design challenge. social media. blogger.

It's no secret. I like to blog. It's an outlet for me. It let's me express myself creatively with words and my passion for design. And the bonus--- I get to "meet" great people and socialize.

That brings me to this week's design challenge...and it's all about blogger...

Funny, no? Wouldn't these be great to give out with your blog URL on them?

design challenge. social media. facebook.

Ah Facebook. Everybody has gone crazy over Facebook. Spending countless hours socializing with friends, playing addictive games and generally stalking each other. But it's all in good fun. Just like this Facebook inspired notecard design.

I keep looking for the "like this" link everywhere! All of the social networking sites should have it.

And to remind ya'll. Become a fan of An Occasional Design. Once I reach 100 fans I will give away 5 gifts to those who let me know on the blog.

cool kids. cool dino.

It just so happens I know the coolest kid ever. Yep. It's true. No lie. His name is Kyle and he turned 4. And because Kyle is so cool, he got an awesome birthday card from me...complete with a hand drawn dino. And yes, that dino was drawn on my new Wacom Intuos 4.

There's plenty of room to write a personal note. Which I happen to think is the cool thing to do.

Yep. I had to let him know how cool he is. :D

What do you think about my dino? Perfect for kids, right?

design challenge. social media.

I promised. I shall deliver. This month's design challenge is all about social media. Yes, we are all obsessed with the likes of Twitter, Facebook and Myspace. I'm taking the obsession one step further with social media stationery and I'm going to start it off with my current fave... Twitter!

Warning: Shameless plug... Are you following me on Twitter??? Well you should be, if not. You can do so here.

This could make a great calling card too. What do you think?

blabs. i'm so bad.

I've been such a bad blogger this week. I haven't given ya'll anything to read or look at except goals. But I promise I have great things in store and that I am working my brain off on great projects. And I know, I know I haven't even started this month's design challenge. But I will this weekend. Swear.

Here's to insane weeks...

And so you can have something to look at...

monthly goal meetup. january.

The Monthly Goal Meetup has found a new home at Athena Dreams. Liz has some exciting things under way for the group, which will now be called The Meetup, including a private Facebook page as well as a list on Twitter where advice, tips and general conversation can take place.

To participate in the meetup:

-Post a list of your business related goals for December, along with your checked off November goals if you'd like, on your own blog.

-Come back here and leave a link to your post in the comments (*If you don't have your own blog to post to, feel free to just leave your list of goals right here in the comments to play along!)

-Then, check out everyone else's lists as they leave comments here- click their links, hop to their blogs, say hello, meet and greet and support each other because that's what it's all about! And if you've participated before, maybe try to say hi to a couple new participants you're unfamiliar with this time around.

So my goals for December where somewhat tackled but mostly they evolved into new goals...

December Goals:

1. Complete listings on Etsy.--Decided not to go the way of Etsy. Looking into other options.
2. Design sample wedding paper suite.--Mostly designed. A few more pieces left.
3. Design wedding marketing brochure.--Decided to include the wedding paper suite into a marketing packet instead of a single brochure.
4. Mail marketing postcard to small startup businesses.--Still gathering a list.

Now onto January:

1. Finish wedding paper suite and send to printer.
2. Design the rest of wedding marketing packet, print and assemble.
3. Get some sort of shop going.
4. Make a Facebook fan page.
5. Update website.
6. Small Business Marketing.
7. Work on a project that I am super excited about but I'm keeping my mouth shut at the moment until things progress!

OK! Well I just realized I have a busy busy busy month ahead of me and hopefully I won't end up adding all this stuff to next month.

::My eyes are crossing now::

What are your January goals?
