This past Saturday I started training with Team in Training to run the San Diego Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon on June 6th. The team supports The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find a stop to leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

I am excited and nervous all at once. I'm not a runner. Never have been. But I'm looking to challenge myself and what better way to do it than for a great cause. And another plus is getting to travel to a great city like San Diego.

It just so happens I know the coolest kid ever. Yep. It's true. No lie. His name is Kyle and he turned 4. And because Kyle is so cool, he got an awesome birthday card from me...complete with a hand drawn dino. And yes, that dino was drawn on my new Wacom Intuos 4.

There's plenty of room to write a personal note. Which I happen to think is the cool thing to do.

Yep. I had to let him know how cool he is. :D

3. Design wedding marketing brochure.--Decided to include the wedding paper suite into a marketing packet instead of a single brochure.
4. Mail marketing postcard to small startup businesses.--Still gathering a list.

Now onto January:

I already talked about My New Year but now it's the real New Year and I couldn't be more excited! I'm leaving for Atlanta in a little over 3 hours! Hopefully, traffic and weather will be good and I will make it there before midnight. And any snow that wants to come can hold off till I'm there and not driving in it. Hello! Florida girl here. But just in case... I have my sweater boots on and ready for it.

So everywhere you look there is "The Best of 2009" so here's mine...

Here we are...the last week of this month. This year! And here is the last design entry in the Project Runway turned Carol Hannah inspired stationery.

As the others...we have Tiffany blue with black and white details and a lovely monogram set inside a fashionable emblem. This time it's packaged like a Tiffany's box. Will it be your words that are the gist inside?

As you read I am most likely getting all giddy opening my Christmas presents and watching family and friends play with their new toys as we await the calorie free feast. (Yes I said calorie free---they don't count on Christmas!)

With the help of automatic posting I share with you my Christmas Card. I feel guilty everybody didn't get one in their mailbox. I love getting a tangible card. It makes me feel all warm inside. Unlike e-cards. I hope you will forgive me. And I hope you have a very Merry Christmas filled with peace and joy.

When I opened my email last Wednesday my jaw about dropped to the floor. I was a winner! I entered a contest with UPrinting. Basically all I had to do was write a testimony. Out of all the wonderful words that were written by fellow bloggers, UPrinting chose me...I still can't believe it. What was the prize, you ask? $100 sent via PayPal! Ok so I liked last weeks Carol Hannah inspired stationery so much I've decided to run with it and expand on it to make a set. The Tiffany blue and black and white details has me swooning. And that emblem! I just may be obsessed with it.

What a great design challenge this has become. Totally not where I intended to go with it but sometimes great things happen that way. What do you think, is it superb?

My favorite Project Runway designer was Carol Hannah. I love her style. It is very modern and her dresses can be worn by the average everyday girl. Not to mention that she is this cute southern gal with big personality.

This week I have designed Carol Hannah inspired stationery. It features a modern look with polka dots draped from a custom emblem, that reminds me of a fancy mannequin turned sideways, with a ultra mod monogram set inside. The Tiffany blue and bold black color gives it a French appeal. I think it would be a great addition to any designers desk, no?

'Tis the season for greeting cards. It's the busiest time of the year for the Post Office with packages and Holiday greeting cards being mailed to friends and relatives all over the world.

Need some help with addressing your envelopes with the proper etiquette? Here's a resource that has been helpful to me. Crane & Co. gives etiquette tips for addressing wedding invitation envelopes, but these tips will work just as well for those greeting cards.

I think a nice touch is to hand write the addresses on your envelopes. It's much more personal and not so commercial feeling. Why not try your hand at calligraphy like I did? Hint: Calligraphy pens at your local craft store are very helpful and can make anybodies handwriting look elegant.

I'm a little early but it's on my mind right now. I'm thinking about what the year as brought me and how things can change in a single instant. This weekend will actually be a year since my "New Year" began. I have been faced with so much. Heartache, emotional roller coasters, soul searching, fear, happiness, travel, friendships, accomplishments. It has been a year like no other. I have learned about myself and what life really means to me and what I want to do. I am still on that journey and I plan to continue to enjoy it. It's been a selfish year. And that's ok. Because you must know yourself and be true to yourself in order to be true to others and be able to give.

As for that "things can change in an instant" thing. Isn't it funny how one minute you can be completely down on your luck and blue and wondering if you will ever find what you are looking for and then the next, well to be honest, completely...ummmm...smitten. Definitely didn't expect that. Can't wait to see what else is in store. And definitely can't wait till the real New Year. In Atlanta.

Yes I jumped on board this season with Project Runway. As the first season I have ever watched I completely fell for the show. It gave me inspiration. I have no intentions on going to buy a sewing machine and bust out the fabrics and dive into the fashion world. It gave me inspiration for my designs. The show made me think about different ways of doing things, different techniques to use. Generally, it had me thinking outside the box.

So with that said this month's design challenge will be with Project Runway flare.

To get started this was inspired by Heidi's famous quote. "In fashion, one day you're in, and the next you're out."

I like to match. And it has to be a perfect match. I can drive myself crazy running all over town to find the perfect shade of purple shoes to match a purple purse I bought (which I still haven't found!) So when it comes to your branding I think everything should match. And that is often hard when you have a graphic designer create your marketing materials and you want your twitter background to be the same but don't want to fork out the bucks just for a color match. Of course I wouldn't mind doing that for you but I want to make things simple so I created a design guide. I'm offering complimentary design guides with every purchase. Well at least the turkeys will be happy if we followed this. lol I'm not much for turkey, but I will be gobbling till I wobble on some ham and other yummy fixins at my moms.

Rich Turbin's Logo and Business Card

I got an email from Lisa Cutright of L. Cutright Photography. Lisa is not only an amazing photographer in Hawaii, she is also pursuing a career as campaign manager for Honolulu City Councilman Rich Turbin. Thus the reason for her email. Rich was looking for some tweaking of his existing logo.

The changes started with shortening Richard to Rich and bringing the blue to more "ocean-ly" (as Lisa put it) blue. I then brought the palm tree up and changed the shape to give it balance.

Lisa also needed a business card for Rich with his new logo. Although, she did the design. I helped her out with making it print-worthy.

Lisa-- Thank you for being an awesome client. I can't wait to work with you again. Good luck with your photography and getting the job. You have my recommendation. I'm so jealous you get to take photos in Hawaii. Lucky lucky girl.

You pick out the right outfit, you put a smile on your face, you stand up straight and you attempt to dazzle them with brilliance. But what if your first impression is actually not the first time your meet in person. More often than not this is the case.

Your business card is often the first impression for many potential clients. It can be the deciding factor whether to contact you or not. If you are claiming to be in the creative business and your business card is plain and generic, do you think you will get a good response with it? Most likely not. Here are some tips to make sure you do get that call back...

Good Fit. Your business card should match your branding. It should be all about you. If you are funky and offbeat, then so should your business card. If you are a doctor, then your business card should be neat and clean. Don't be afraid to use unusual shapes. But of course, make sure it communicates what you are trying to say.

Good Design. This goes along with good fit. If you are a photography, please include images of your work on your business card. It serves has a mini-portfolio. Remember to keep things simple though. Usually 3 images will do. More than that, the viewer will most likely not be able to see what differentiates you from other photographers. This works well for those who are not in the photography business as well. Whatever your product is, visuals are good aids and more memorable. Your design should be clear and legible. No fine print or pixelation please. Also, colors should be complimentary and not take away from the overall design. And it should go without saying to check spelling and grammar.

Card Stock. Printing at home is a cheap alternative but it lacks the professional look and is not a good quality paper. They usually have perforated edges that can make your design look tacky no matter how good it is. Spend the extra money to have your business cards printed on good quality card stock. Your cards are being passed around and put into wallets and purses. You want them to last, right? Also, choose the card stock that is right for you. If your business is all about being green, make sure your card is made from recyclable materials. Glossy, also makes business cards look sleek and professional.

Ummm, where exactly did November go? Better yet where exactly did the year go!? Thanksgiving is next week, really? Oh well, bring on the food! (Just keep the calories please.)

I think the universe said "Amanda, you had way too much fun last week so this week you shall be miserable with a cough and cold and on top of that you have to work and do your finals through it all. Not to mention an ATM will steal your money and give you the wrong card back" Well I'm saying to the universe. "BRING IT ON!"

No people, I can not make this stuff up. This is really how my week went. But I'm still alive and now I will revel in a marvelous weekend with New Moon (yes I'm one of those) and celebrating Bernei's birthday at Harmonious Monks.

I think half the world was born in October which made for a busy month for me. Here's a recap of the designs I did to help the birthday boys and girls celebrate.

Shane turned one on October 1st. His mommy (my bestie) threw a big party complete with a bouncy, cotton candy and monkeys. The colors were yellow, green and brown. Here's the invitation that went out...

And here is the Birthday Card I gave the little cutie...

Ashley's step daughter's birthday is on October 2nd. Autumn turned 13 and had a pink, yellow and zebra slumber party that is sure to be talked about for years. Ashley became the next HWTM for both Shane and Autumn's parties. Here's how the girls got invited...

Ashley herself (yes she kept me busy) also had a birthday on the 24th. She said she wanted a big check for a million dollars. Of course I couldn't deny her of this.

Last but not least we had Hunter's birthday. He turned 1 on October 30th. Hunter is my little cousin and couldn't be more adorable. He celebrated with a jungle themed party.

I planned on having a typography post for ya'll last week while on vacation but it didn't work out that way. And I didn't get any word suggestions either. Shame shame. So I am going to do something a little different and show you a wedding invitation concept I created.

The premise...

High school sweethearts get married at their high school.

The colors: white, black and gray.

The theme: classroom

The invitation: blackboard

So what do you think? I think the use of typography in wedding invitations is important. It sets the tone. With the wrong type used it could throw the whole thing off and not convey the message properly.

Since, I slacked I'm going to give you some extras this week. These are posters I have done using letters and words. Enjoy.

These were given has baby shower gifts. How cute would they be framed in a nursery?

Well, I originally intended to give a play by play on twitter during my vacation. However, lack of service threw that out the window. It was kinda of nice to have a technology detox. No laptop, no cell phone, heck I didn't even know what time it was most of the time.

Needless to say the Bahamas are absolutely amazing. So gorgeous and serene.

We boarded the ship around 12:30 on Monday and had a few drinks. We set sail about 4:30 and it sure was rocking...literally it was rocking. The seas were outrageous. But no sea sickness for me. Can't say the same for Ashley and Shawn though.

Tuesday morning we woke up in CocoCay. Royal Caribbean's private island. Can you say stunning????

And we met some friends along the way...

Just look at that water! We even had a sting ray swim right past us.

The next was spent in Nassau which is equally gorgeous. I ended up spending most of the day alone due a not so funny for my situation but hilarious for everyone else. Yep, I wrecked a scooter. Go ahead laugh it up. I'm not though! Anyways, I took the ferry over to Atlantis and finally got over my anxiety attack when I saw the architecture. Ah-maz-ing!

The aquarium at Atlantis was sooo pretty.

Thursday we were at sea all day at joined some of the festivities on board like Men's Sexy Leg Contest, Women's Bicep Contest, the Casino (totally lost my butt!), Bingo (the same guy won 3 out of 4 games. NOT. FAIR.) and we went to the most hilarious adult comedy act ever! So much fun.

The staff was fantastic! And the food...Oh I think I ate a month's worth of food. It was always at your fingertips and somehow I never felt full. I even tried escargot...and liked it! We ate in the Dining Room every night and Tuesday night was formal night so we got all dolled up.

Our room attendant made us a monkey and a bat. Here's the monkey...

Did I mention we had fun??? I'm ready to go back. Like. Now!

weekend warrior. bulletin board.

I needed a bulletin board for my home office. But of course I didn't want to hang a boring plain cork board. That's just not how I roll. So I jazzed it up a little. Here's how I did it...

I started off with gathering my supplies.
~Cork board
~Fabric
~Buttons
~Ribbon
~Scissors
~Stapler
~Push pins
~Hot glue gun

Then I cut my fabric about 2 inches bigger than my cork board.

I then placed my fabric upside down and laid the cork board upside down on top of that. Next, I stapled the fabric to the back of the board, starting in the middle of each side, making sure that the fabric is pulled tight.

To make clean corners, I folded them like a present and then stapled them in place.

The board should like this at this point.

I then took ribbon and made a crossed pattern securing the pieces to the back with staples.

Taking my buttons, I hot glued them to push pins.

Then I placed them where the ribbons crossed.

Finally, it can be hung on the wall for all your important notes.

I chose a fabric and buttons that matched my brand. What would you do to make a super chic bulletin board like this one?

trend. n. A general tendency or inclination. Synonym: Tendency.

We all follow them, whether it's intentional or not. An it's ok. It's the natural flow of things. One trend I have been seeing lately is polka-dots. I have to admit I have definitely jumped on that bandwagon. It's one of my current obsessions, right along with peacock feathers. lol. But trends are not only seen in fashion design, we see them in branding designs...logos, stationery, websites. I even have a form of polka-dots in my own branding with the words forming a circle. You can check that out here.

I've also been using polka-dots in my recent designs...

The great thing about polka-dots are that they are fun and can be used in a variety of ways. Aligned, different sizes, different colors, arranged in pictures...the options are limitless.

Eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk. 3 days till we set sail to the Bahamas! I can hardly contain myself. The excitement is just too much! hehe But I think I will manage.

Don't worry though just because I'm on vacation doesn't mean the blog will be. I have few posts scheduled for your entertainment. And of course I will be posting some of my awesome adventures on here and twitter (if your not following, shame on you.)

I'm not taking my lap-top ( I know, right) so I will definitely be going through Internet withdrawals. But at least I have my cell to get my Twitter and Mobile Blogging fix. I would go completely nuts if I didn't have some form of technology.

There seems to be some other things I wanted to blab about but all things cruise related keep popping to mind. Hmmmm. O'well.

Oh yeah don't forget to comment here with a word to inspire me for this month's design challenge.

One of my favorite parts of being a designer is the use of typography. There is something about arranging and manipulating typefaces into unique designs with different point sizes and colors that makes me all giddy inside. Typography can be seen just about anywhere. Advertisements, posters, monograms and invitations... just to name a few.

This months design challenge. will be all about Typography. And I want to get you all involved. Each week I will ask you to leave a comment with a word or phrase that you want to see a design around. I will pick my favorite inspiration and the following week post the design.

To get things started, last night I asked Twitter and Facebook friends to give me a word. I got a lot of great words and decided to go with Stephanie's...exhausted.

While designing this I kept imagining myself engulfed in a puffy white linens on a cloud-like bed. Ahhh the relaxation. Notice the subtle words related to exhaustion and relaxation embossed into the crisp background. Doesn't it make you want jump into bed and catch some zzzzs?

It is no secret that I love handbags and it is no secret that I love the beach. So it should be no surprise to you that I fell completely head over heels in love with Seabags. These bags are absolutely great. They use recycled sails and turn them into lovely eco friendly designs that look great on your shoulder. Postcards are awesome too! I wouldn't likely use the cards this way, but I would recommend anyone getting married use postcards for their RSVPs. Tradition dictates that you put postage on the RSVP for your wedding guests, and a postcard mails a lot cheaper than an envelope! I did this for my wedding and it was very well received. 16 cents might not seem like much savings, but that's 16 dollars you save for every 100 invites. It also means that your invitation is less likely to cost extra to mail (if your RSVP is a card and envelope) because of weight (so potentially another 20 cents savings per!)
I would, however, probably use the cards to promote my sewing business; a postcard would be great because I could include images of my work on one side and a price list for sewing services on the back.

What is branding?

Technical answer: According to the American Marketing Association branding is " a customer experience represented by a collection of images and ideas; often, it refers to a symbol such as a name, logo, slogan, and design scheme. Brand recognition and other reactions are created by the accumulation of experiences with the specific product or service, both directly relating to its use, and through the influence of advertising, design, and media commentary."

My answer: Branding is you. It is how you want you and your business to be perceived. It displays emotion and creates personality which engages people. A brand consists of an image, a message and a promise.

A brands image is the first thing a client will see. It will tell the client about your business? Are you young and hip? Traditional? Your brand should coincide with that. Ways to do this is through logos, color palettes and design techniques.

A brand should have a message. What do you want to tell potential clients? Your message should be consistent throughout your advertising and customer interactions.

A promise: Without it a brand is nothing. What does your company stand for? Is it superior customer service or exceptional quality? Your brand needs to reflect this and your customers need to be able to count on a consistent experience.

With these aspects put together correctly, a company can have a successful brand. As for building a brand...you need to be consistent, persistent and patient. And remember it all about you.

It's been a happy week. My mom went on vacation to Pennsylvania so I have been house sitting. It has been nice. Just me and my girl Roxy. Which, by the way, it was Roxy's second birthday yesterday. I treated her to some doggy friendly ice cream. She enjoyed every bit of it.

Speaking of vacations. I am counting down the days till mine. 24 days till I can say Bon Voyage! Bahamas here I come!

Business wise, I finished up a logo design and business cards that I will be revealing soon. I've also been working on all the giveaway prizes. They are turning out oh so lovely. And I love seeing my designs in print. It make everything look so much better.

Earlier this week I came across the most amazing photographer. Clark Little. I am just absolutely blow away by his images. Stunning. I just can't get enough.

Not a whole lot planned for this weekend and I am completely happy with that. Gonna catch the Gator game and go to the Callahan Fair, that's about it. Maybe I can cash in on that rain check that I promised the couch last weekend. That would be nice. You know, because the couch misses me.

blabs. A little me time. A little release in this hectic world. A little way for me to come back to reality. Some days I may have a million things to say and some days I might be speechless.

This week has been a whirlwind of emotions for me. The relief of the launch of my website. The excitement of meeting such wonderful people on my blog. {Thanks dearly for leaving comments. They all made me smile.} The exhaustion of juggling two jobs and school. The fear of failure and the pure happiness I felt going through it all. I realized this week that this is my calling in life, at least for now. And with that realization I am going full force and not stopping. I WILL succeed.

This weekend I will be helping my "bestie" with her son's birthday party. Shane just turned one and he is such a little cutie. A handful but a cutie. Ashley has been making awesome decorations for what seems like forever now. Last weekend was her step daughters thirteenth birthday party and she also did the most amazing pink, yellow and zebra decorations ever! As fun as parties are I will sure be glad when I can do a little relaxing. Maybe Sunday...Maybe.

Every month I will be hosting a design challenge. These challenges will be exciting and push me to my creative limits. Each week I will come up with a design that is fitting for the challenge and post it here on the blog. There may even be more than one design a week. Depends on how inspired I am. At the moment I have ideas oozing out of my pours so your definetly in for a treat!
I am uber excited about this month's design challenge. It not only involves pink (my second favorite color) but it is for an excellent cause.

In honor of Breat Cancer Awareness Month I am proud to present...

For the challenge I will design note cards inspired by the color pink. There will be at least one note card a week. You can purchase these notecards for $15.00 for a pack of 10. All proceeds will go to Pink Initiative to help find a cure for Breast Cancer.

The best thing is that this challenge will never end. I will donate all proceeds from this challenge to breast cancer day in and day out...until a cure is found!

Surfboard Wall Art

I'm so excited to finally show you the surfboard I've been working on. I had this idea about a year ago and it has finally came to fruition. All though I don't paint a great deal, I really do enjoy it. It's a labor of love. The board is hand painted on a 5'5" REAL surfboard with real sand and shells on the island. Wouldn't this look great hanging in your beach house or any tropical inspired room for that matter? If you love it, then your in luck because it's for sale!

An unlikely place to find inspiration...

Ok, so I am doing my daily blog stalking and come across "Not Just CAD!- Shaun Bryant's CAD Blog!," and found a little inspiration from his post "Quick Tip for all CAD users!: A Man on the Moon - Scott Sheppard (Autodesk)." While Shaun usually adds a personal touch to his blogs, I read them for the great tips related to AutoCAD. So I wasn't expecting this kind of inspiration, an inspiration on a level much more than business, but on a deeper level that got me thinking.

Shaun said,

"Mankind has many faults. One of which is to get down when the going gets rough. Watching "Moonshot" the other night (a TV dramatization of the moon landing), I realised that people died to get us on the moon. They died for a cause and we all have a cause. That cause is to be remarkable and make a difference. All of the team involved in the first manned moon landing of Apollo 11; engineers and astronauts alike, believed in their cause and so should we all. Even if it is just to get by in such difficult times. It is tough out there right now but things will improve and things will change. Just believe in yourself like those guys at NASA did. You never know what might happen!"

He's right, you never know what might happen and you do have to believe in yourself. I have my moments when I second guess everything and I am not very confident in my abilities or that I can make it in the design industry. I get frustrated when I don't get an instant response and I get frustrated because everything is all new to me and I'm kinda blind going in. But I have to remember that I have a great support system. I have family, friends and mentors that are all behind me. They believe in me, so I have to believe in myself. I have to learn not to let trips become falls. And if I do fall, I have to get back up and try again. And again. And again. Whatever it takes. So, I'm here to say I believe in myself! And if you're in the same boat as me, I hope you believe in yourself too.

I'm done! I'm done! I'm done! I have officially finished the CAD program at ITT-Tech. I now have an Associates of Science in Computer Drafting and Design to hang on the wall. As I have been shelling out resumes the last few weeks my hopes have been up and down. One week there are a bunch of jobs posted, the next week nothing. I did a bunch of follow up calls today and half the companies have put their hiring on hold. On hold! Not what I want to hear. When is the economy going to get better. Give it a booster shot and lets move on people. Seriously, this girl needs a career. Not, a boring, mundane job that I have. A CAREER! In my desperate attempt to get my foot in the door I am going to post my resume here in hopes that someone will see it and say "O she will be great for this position." And yes I know this isn't the most professional prelude/cover letter to my resume. But maybe someone will see that I've got spunk. I've got determination. I've got a desire to join a company that I can utilize my skills and my creative mind to benefit both the company and myself.

I have spent the last several hours trying to write my personal statement to be placed in my portfolio. At first I couldn't find the words. Words never come easy to be. "This is impossible," I thought to myself. Then I remembered the quote from Walt Disney and the words came flying out of my fingertips, so to speak. So I wanted to share it with you and get your honest opinions before it hits the printer. So here it is.....

I have always been inspired by the arts and the creativity and stories that lie within them. However, I used to not think that I could make something as remarkable as, well let’s say, Walt Disney. I would say, “That’s impossible.” Walt Disney once said “It’s kinda fun to do the impossible.” I first saw this quote in high school and it has stuck with me ever since and inspired my career path.

Though I have never exactly wanted to become an animator or film producer, I have always known that my life’s work would be one with a creative twist. As a young girl, my grandmother encouraged me to do arts and crafts. I dreamed of becoming many things “when I got older,” such as a photographer, graphic artist and architect. I knew that I was meant to be an artist and use my creative mind for to stimulate someone else, whether it was their eyes or mind.

In high school I had two teachers that made a difference in my life. Mr. Albertson was my photography teacher. In his class, I was first introduced to graphic design and the amazing things you could do in Photoshop. That is when I decided to pursue a career as a graphic artist. After high school, I obtained an Associates of Arts in Fine Arts. I was on my way to getting a Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design when I took a moment to reflect on where I really wanted to go and what the job market was like.

That is when I remembered Mr. Callahan. Mr. Callahan was my drafting teacher. In his class I learned the basics of drafting by hand and designed a two story house that I call my “dream house.” At the time I didn’t consider drafting as a career but I did think that it was interesting and I really enjoyed the detailed work. As my education came to a crossroads I inevitably chose to embark on a journey to an Associates of Arts in Computer Drafting and Design at ITT-Technical Institute.

Over the last two years at ITT-Technical Institute I have learned a multitude of objectives that will help me in the industry of Drafting and Design. I have become very familiar with AutoCAD 2008 and AutoCAD Architecture 2008. I have also become fairly proficient with other programs such as AutoDesk Inventor and VIZ. In addition to the programs I have also learned the standards of architectural, mechanical and civil drafting and designing. Not only have I honed my technical skills I have also expanded on my personal skills and I have grown as a professional individual.

Although I am dedicated to my career path as a drafter and designer I have not forgotten my roots. I have found a happy medium for graphic design in my spare time as a hobby and creative outlet. I also find that it keeps me grounded in my creative style and allows me to keep a fresh outlook on my work and life. With all my experience I now consider myself an artist. A Designer, to be exact. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be where I am now. I would have said “impossible.” Like Walt Disney said, “It’s kinda fun to do the impossible.”

Tennessee Vacation

Just wanted to show ya'll some highlights from my vacation to Tennessee. We stayed in Seveirville and visited Pegion Fordge and Gatlinburg. Wich is all within 15 minutes of each other.

Thursday we went shopping on the strip in Gaitlinburg.

RainForest Adventures Discover Zoo complete with the Aussie Walkabout (which consisted of 2 kangaroos!) It literally would have take 2 minutes to walk through the whole zoo if we weren't taking pics of everything! Atleast it was free with the hotel.

Design Love

I was just blog hopping and hopped right into Tim Clarke and fell in love. First of all he is absolutely gorgeous. Second of all he has some amazing interior designs. It is sooo me. Anyone want to pay him to design my house? Well I would need a house first, but ya get the point. Tim is a surfer turned interior designer to the stars. His goal is to infuse inspiration drawn from the coastal lifestyle and the essence of the "perfect beach house" into any space, regardless of size or location. And let me tell you, he has done that flawlessly. And the third reason I am in love is due to his online portfolio. It's remarkable. I am taking a portfolio class and we have discussed the "perk" of a digital portfolio and well I want mine just like it. Not his actual designs but the design of the website. Hats off to KAA Design Group, Inc. Tim also has a store in Santa Monica, CA called Tower 20. Anyone wanna go to Cali???

In about 10 hours Ashley, Shawn and I will be hitting the road to Tennessee for our much awaited vacation. I am so stoked!!!

Sorry I haven't had anything on the blog this week. I have been super busy with starting a new quarter at school and getting ready for vacation. A couple of weeks ago my dearest cousin April, my bestie Ashley and I went and got tattoos. It was April's birthday and her first tat. She got her son's name, Hunter, on her wrist. Ashley got her husband's name, Shawn, on hers and I got a turtle on mine.

I got a turtle, well because I love them. I've had several red ear sliders since I was about 15. And I miss the 3 Jack got when we split up. Mommy loves you Squirt, Squirtle and Yurtle! Anywho, I drew my turtle up and took it to David at Inksmith and Rogers and he made it extra awesome!

One Cool Spider

I'm not scared of spiders per say but I def don't want them crawling around on or near me. I was recently given the coolest spider ever by my Aunt Sherry. It's a Christmas Spider. Some lady at her work made it. And since I love love love the Florida Gators, this is one rad creepy crawler. Yeah I know what your thinking...Christmas was like 2 months ago. My Aunt has been meaning to give it to me since Christmas Eve. Bless her heart.

Anyways, here it is. I think the lady that made it is super talented. Don't you?

Back From the Dead

I know, I know. I have fallen off the face of the earth. Well I am here to say that I am planning a comeback of sorts. A comeback as in I'm going to reappear in the blog world. As for An Occasional Design, well that's is still on hold for now. Well, on hold for the most part. I'm not going to put my every waking moment into it but I will still do some work. Freelance, as you will. And I am still working on ideas and such. I just need more space and a fatter wallet to do everything I want.

As for my blog, it will be more about me personally but with a focus on what I love...Design. I will incorporate all types of design in some shape or form. I may even include the design of myself into a new woman that I am becoming as I go through life changes and experiences. I will share my work from school, random finds and projects that I come across. I am mostly excited about sharing my work from school. I am nearing graduation in June and can not wait! March 9Th is the beginning of my last quarter. I have Cap Stone and Portfolio, and of course I will be sharing with you everything that goes into it. Also, I will be keeping the blog name An Occasional Design because that what it will be... an occasional design. hehe. Love that!

I say I am entering my last quarter but it turns out that ITT is adding a new Bachelors program, Project Management. I am seriously thinking about going into that. But that means another 2 years and ALOT more money. I feel silly to just stop where I am but at the same time can I handle more school. I suppose it would be worth it in the long run.

Now as for my audience...I'm a little disappointed I've only acquired 6 followers. Hmmm. We'll have to do something about that. So you 6 get to yapping to your friends about how awesome this blog is. Hehe. Or at least tell them it exist.

And last but not least I will leave you with some pics. Yay.

This is my Course Project for my 3D modeling class. And how appropriate that I put it on the blog since it is my store. lol. Well ok maybe my dream store. This was done in Autodesk VIZ 2008.
